According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, non-communicable diseases cause more deaths in Indonesia, than infectious diseases. As most non-communicable diseases derive from unhealthy lifestyles the disease control programs that have been implemented involve not only curative treatments but also preventative approaches. Hello Doctor has the potential to make a significant difference in prevention of diseases.

It is well a known fact that when people get advice from a doctor, a trusted source of information, they’re more likely to change their lifestyle & behaviour than if they were advised by anyone else.
This is the very unique & exclusive offering that Hello Doctor brings to Indonesia: affordable, convenient and immediate access to a qualified Indonesian doctor for personal healthcare & advice – using a device that every Indonesian has, a mobile phone. As a subscriber to the Hello Doctor service you and your family will have access to a doctor 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week - it’s like having your own personal doctor on call.
“Technology has made a significant impact on healthcare delivery. Hello Doctor believes that its innovative offering across multiple channels and platforms together with its partnership with Telkomsel and IDI will be a significant move towards affordable and accessible healthcare for all, empowering Indonesians to take responsibility for their own health” says Dr Michael Mol (Global Director, Hello Doctor)
"Understanding consumer lifestyle that’s evolving digitally, Telkomsel is continually looking at ways to provide customers needs through innovative and relevant mobile solutions. We are thus excited by the partnership with Hello Doctor as the service brings essential healthcare information and personalized advice to our customers' fingertips", says marina Kacaribu, VP Digital Lifestyle Telkomsel.
Hello Doctor gives consumers access to trusted, in-depth medical information combined with professional insights and advice from registered medical doctors across multiple platforms.
Hello Doctor has partnered with Ikatan Doctor Indonesia (IDI) to ensure that users get access to registered, qualified doctors for advice in Bahasa Indonesia. “This is the first mobile application that IDI has endorsed” said Dr Zainal Abidin (IDI Chairman) expressing his support of Hello Doctor.
The Hello Doctor app is free to download (www.hellodoctor.co.id) and works on both smartphones and selected feature phones, effectively providing consumers with "a doctor in their pocket 24/7". The app provides free content that is updated daily, giving consumers access to healthcare advice, answers to health-related questions in live group chat forums, confidential one-on-one text-a-doctor Q&As and the ability to receive a call back from doctor within 60 minutes. A USSD service is also part of this solution.
The paid-for services that will be available to all Telkomsel subscribers via the Hello Doctor mobile app include Digital Doctor and House Call. These services will provide subscribers with instant confidential access to over 200 registered doctors in Indonesia who will be able to give medical guidance and advice.
The House Call service allows consumers telephonic access to a doctor any time of the day and night, as well as additional services on the mobile app and Web site that are aimed at helping people achieve and maintain their health and wellness goals, whereas the Digital Doctor service allows subscribers to send a confidential text message through the Hello Doctor app, and one of their doctors will respond with personal confidential advice also within the hour.
Hello Doctor will also be launching a TV show, a co-production between Hello Doctor and Kompas Gramedia and aired on KompasTV. Commenting on the Hello Doctor Show, Dr Michael Mol says “To be in good health is not a default setting, it’s a goal that needs to be actively pursued – and that’s what the Hello Doctor series is all about. We’d like to educate, empower and inspire individuals to live their best life, by being the healthiest they can be. So expect to be challenged, confronted and moved to be a better you, as we explore a variety of medical conditions offering accurate, up to date and reliable information. Throughout the show viewers will also be encouraged to ‘find out more’ on www.hellodoctor.co.id” and can engage with doctors during the show in a live chatroom environment.”
It's a proven fact that early detection and treatment can save lives, curb the progression of chronic lifestyle diseases and improve overall health and wellbeing. Said another way … prevention is better than cure. By overcoming the usual obstacles to attaining healthcare from a doctor Hello Doctor will facilitate early detection and management through access to qualified doctors for relevant advice, timely referral and appropriate & personalized healthcare education.
The Indonesian Minister of health, speaking at the press launch, challenged Hello Doctor to be committed for the long-term – since preventative healthcare strategies are not a short-term solution, and urged them to participate in the BPJS program, supported by IDI.
“Our health service is convenient, affordable, unique and above all trustworthy. Everybody needs a doctor, but not everyone has access to one. Today that changes, with the launch of Hello Doctor, every Indonesian can now have access to a doctor whenever, wherever and forever.” concludes Dr Mol.
Hello Doctor is a South African company. Since its launch in 2009, Hello Doctor has grown to over 600,000 users across multiple portals and social media platforms. In January 2013, Metropolitan Health recognised the synergy and growth potential by acquiring a 50.1% stake in the Hello Doctor business. Hello Doctor's intention is not to replace the GP, but instead to support primary and preventative healthcare by acting as an assistant to local GPs when consumers want a quick healthcare reference before seeing their GP or rushing off to the hospital. No examination and diagnosis is made, and therefore, no clinical medical healthcare is undertaken – you just receive access to health information and guidance when you need it most.
