“Everybody can now be an event-promoter using his or her social media accounts. Nothing brings more joy to people, than live music, be it in restaurants, bars, coffee shops or indeed any other venue. However, the costs associated with producing these live events can be prohibitive. Often, the promoter or venue owner is left holding the bag if the turnout is not as great as anticipated”, said Mustafa Daood, lead singer of DEBU.
“We bring together all elements required to make things happen with our model based on a contractual relationship, paying an agreed percentage of the show’s earnings instead of a fixed fee. This way, risks are minimized and more mutually beneficial gatherings will happen.
What excites me is that any music lover with a Facebook account can become a promoter. The simplicity of our business model allows anyone in any city to create an EqualEvent as it leverages on the power of social media to launch, promote, manage, and sell events. We are already talking to individuals who are making gatherings happen all over the globe, to be more ambitious in their outlook by adopting the EqualEvent way.” Added Mustafa.
EqualEvent is already working on musical happenings not only in Jakarta, but also in Surabaya, Bali and Singapore. The long terms goal is for EqualEvent.com to flourish throughout Southeast Asia, then Europe and America.
EqualEvent will take a small fee for facilitating the budding promoters’ aspirations, and will guide them on marketing best practice as well as providing an online ticketing and payment system.

DEBU, The world's leading Sufi band takes residence at Sisha Cafe every Wednesday and Saturday night from the first week of August. A special one-off preview concert together with BABA Band and other Indonesian stars was held on the 7th of May 2014, at the South Jakarta venue. Also on the horizon in Southeast Asia’s largest metropolis, is a four nights a week event provisionally entitled, “Unsigned and Trending” which will showcase up and coming artists making it big on YouTube.
“Our sweet spot,” observed Mustafa, “are venues that hold anything from 50 to 500 people although the system is flexible enough to be able to cope with larger establishments.
We think there’s a massive market out there to bring quality original bands by partnering them with venues such as coffee shops or hotels worldwide and creating beneficial relationships. Nothing drives up food and beverage sales like happy patrons listening to live music. EqualEvent.com will become the e-enabler of café-societies worldwide.”
